Village History

Our village history is inextricably linked with that of Lady Jane Grey whose life is set out by Jane Lambert - click to read Jane Lambert's version

In November 1925 the Bradgate Estate was sold in 227 lots by direction of Mrs. K.H.V. Grey. Here is a table showing the houses and their sale prices.

The Village has been very lucky to have a historian living with us for so many years. The late Joan Stevenson prepared the timeline 1241-1999 and Pam McMorran continued with it from 2000 until 2019.

In 1938 A. Bernard Clarke transcribed Baptism, Marriages and Burials records between the years 1654 to 1809. These were subsequently put on disc by the late Joan Stevenson and later transferred to the computer by her son Robin Stevenson of Kairos Press. He has kindly supplied this copy for our records

Grateful thanks also goes to Janet Neaverson for supplying such a wealth of information from the Village Archives which are stored at her home in Grey Crescent. She will be happy to show you these records by prior appointment. Some of Janet's articles published in the magazine are reproduced here.

In 2018 Janet handed over the archives to Iris Sayer also of Grey Crescent who continues to update them regularly. She will also be happy to show you anything you are interested in.
